OUR STORY

Welcome to Barnes Harley-Davidson®. Many times people ask who is “Barnes” or how did the Barnes family get involved in the motorcycle business, specifically Harley-Davidson®? Let us share with you our journey to where we are today.

The Barnes family has been in the automotive business in Western Canada for over 40 years, beginning with Greg Barnes purchasing a General Motors dealership in Camrose, Alberta. In 1988, the family moved to Prince George when a larger GM dealership became available for purchase. In 1992, the opportunity arose to purchase Pacific GMC in Coquitlam, so our family returned to the lower mainland where we have remained ever since.

Over the years, the Barnes organization has owned and operated a variety of automotive dealerships. In the '90s, we grew by purchasing the Ed Klassen Pontiac dealership in Surrey (since sold), the Don Carr Chevrolet dealership in White Rock (now Barnes Wheaton GM South Surrey), Barnes Nissan Vernon (since sold), and, in 2003, Southside Harley-Davidson® in Langley, which became Barnes Harley-Davidson®. In 2015, we expanded our Harley-Davidson® dealer footprint by purchasing Steve Drane Harley-Davidson® in Victoria and rebranding it Barnes Harley-Davidson® Victoria. With this purchase, Barnes Harley-Davidson® became the largest Harley-Davidson® dealer group (by sales volume) in Canada. In 2016, Barnes Harley-Davidson® was awarded the open point in Richmond/New Westminster and purchased Kamloops Harley-Davidson® in April of 2016. Since then, Barnes Harley-Davidson® became responsible for approximately 70% of all new Harley-Davidson® motorcycles sold in British Columbia on an annual basis. In 2021, we expanded into Alberta, purchasing Heritage Harley-Davidson® and rebranding as Barnes Harley-Davidson® South Edmonton. In March of 2022, the Barnes organization purchased Action Motorcycles on Vancouver Island, now Barnes Powersports Victoria. With this expansion into powersports, we added several new brands to our repertoire for the first time since 2003.

This swift expansion puts Barnes Harley-Davidson® at the top of customers' lists when they are looking for the ultimate Harley-Davidson® experience. Barnes Harley-Davidson® is now responsible for approximately 70% of all new Harley-Davidson® motorcycles sold in British Columbia on an annual basis. To facilitate a plan of rapid growth, Barnes Garage Co. - our overhead company - was formed in 2020 to manage and control the Barnes Harley-Davidson® Langley, Barnes Harley-Davidson® Victoria, Barnes Harley-Davidson® Kamloops, Barnes Harley-Davidson® South Edmonton, Barnes Wheaton GM, Barnes Powersports Victoria, Barnes Wheaton Leasing, BrapCredit, and all future rooftops.

Today, Barnes Garage Co. and Barnes Harley-Davidson® are truly known as family organizations. Greg Barnes continues as President and Dealer Principal, while Ingrid Barnes, wife of Greg Barnes, managed marketing and H.O.G.® activities, but has since retired (2012). Brian Barnes, eldest son of Greg and Ingrid, serves as the Chief Operations Officer of all Barnes businesses. Brian has been involved in the business since 1999 and has carried out numerous roles in the various rooftops, including as General Manager for Barnes Nissan in Vernon (since sold). Ashley Marks, youngest daughter of the family, was formerly MotorClothes® Manager and Business Manager at Barnes Wheaton GM North Surrey (since sold), and now works as the Talent Acquisition Manager for Barnes Garage Co.. Having spent much of his career in finance, Aaron Barnes, youngest son of the Barnes family, joined Barnes Garage Co. as Chief Financial Officer in late 2020.
